Helen asks…
which is better to buy for reading books- the ipad or kindle?
i really need something light and portable to carry my books in, so i was thinking maybe either… ipad or kindle? the games and apps on the ipad dont really matter to me that much in this case… also, should i get the the kindle or kindle 2?
thx for your help
idownload answers:
I suggest the Kindle. If you like the bigger size then buy the Kindle 2. Look at the two images, especially the ones that have a hand holding the device. That might help you decide.
Another thing to consider is the available downloads for the device. I believe books for the Kindle are 9.99 and they have a huge inventory to choose from. I don’t know how much books are for the ipad.
If you go to amazon, the customer ratings are better for the Kindle versus the ipad. Besides, the Kindle has a better price.

Laura asks…
Can i use the installed apps on an ipad at work where I don’t have wifi access?
(if I download the required apps using my home wifi network). So for instance if I downloaded a Kindle book onto my ipad at home could I then read that book in work even though we don’t have 3g or wifi access at work?)
idownload answers:
Yes, as long as the mode in which you wish to run the app doesn’t require an Internet connection. Reading books and playing Angry Birds, for example, are fine but playing multi-player games or browsing the web just won’t work.

Can i read kindle books on nook?
Just got a Nook and wondered what kind of books I can read with it for instance: Kindle, Android, Ipad, etc… are they compatible?
idownload answers:
Interesting question, and I don’t know the answer. I know you can read Kindle books on other forms of readers – including your computer, but I don’t know if Nook offers that.

Maria asks…
Is there any way to print a page from a Kindle book?
My friend is doing this study and she uses her iPad to read the textbook. She got her book on the amazon store, so she needs to use the kindle app. Is there any way to print pages from a book on either Kindle for iPad or Kindle for Mac/PC? Any help would be appreciated.
(It probably isn’t possible due to copyright and them not wanting you to print an entire book, but my friend is sure you can.)
idownload answers:
Try downloading Calibre (free) and attaching the book to that, change it into a PDF then you can print anything you want out of it.

Ken asks…
Is reading books on the ipad rough on the eyes like reading a computer screen?
I have been playing around with the idea of getting and ipad which I would use as an e-reader (and other things). I’m worried that reading off the ipad would be just like reading off of a computer screen because its so bright. For those of you with an ipad, how is it reading of the device as opposed to a kindle or other e-reader?
idownload answers:
You’re right to be concerned. People buy ereaders with E Ink displays, giving up color and video, for precisely that reason: Reading from LCD-based tablets or ereaders is like reading from a computer display; reading from E Ink ereaders is like reading from a book. The difference is that LCD emit light; E Ink displays reflect ambiant light like paper pages do.
If you’re seriously into long-run reading, and you don’t need all the apps and games and web browsing for which LCD ereaders/tablets excel, get an E Ink based ereader. The latest E Ink technology is E Ink Pearl, which is used in Kindle 3s, Sony Readers (prs-350, 650, 950), Kobo Touch, and Nook Touch.
